NEW PICTURES IN THE 'FOOTBALL COLLECTION' SECTION
How it all began….
Sketching/ Doodling has always been something I've enjoyed, from as young as being able to hold my first set of crayons.
Throughout my early school days, reading and writing was always a bit of a struggle. However, put a pen, pencil, crayon, piece of chalk, paint brush, or even a stick on a beach, in my hand and I have always enjoyed letting what ever is in my head at that moment escape on to the material in front of me (even using a rusty nail on the side of my Dads old Sierra, that didn't go down to well at the time).
As a young teenager I can remember looking out across the school field during another tedious English lesson. I'd be in my usual day dream state, waiting for the minutes to tick by. Looking down at an almost blank page I'd have created a messy sketch of what resembled a cartoon dog holding a small child in its mouth, jumping across my page. This was instead of the 500 or so words I should have written on why Romeo & Juliet should have been “just good friend’s”, or whatever pointless exercise had been conjured up by one of the many teachers I have now been able to blank out from my mind. However, I stuck with it and I’m glad I did as I left school with GCSE's and even managed a two year Art & Design course at college and a 3 years Design & Marketing degree at Uni.....where the doodles got a bit more advanced!
Sitting in front of the TV one night not so long ago, realising that there was nothing worth watching on the 497 channels available to me and that my thumbs could not take another minute of punishment on the Xbox, I decided to sketch down a few ideas in my head.
After about twenty minutes all I was left with was a few badly drawn stick men and something that resembled a swamp monster. Looking around the room at a pile of un-tidy DVDs, I spotted a box set of 'Family guy' and decided I would create my own character. An hour later I had a large hunched back figure with small eyes and a mouth staring back at me. With the addition of an oversized football shirt and a couple of boots the first Hunchie was born.
I decided on the name Hunchies purely because of the hunchback appearance of the strange little character and not because of the slang term I have since discovered……I would just like to clear that up.
Once I was happy with the character, I started producing pastel artwork.......So far mainly based around football, another passion in my life. Images can be found in the 'Football Collection' section.
